Loose steering on a 2005 Dodge Neon?

I have a 2005 Dodge Neon, automatic transmission, it has 43,300 miles on it. Suddenly the steering has gotten noticeable looser. Still driveable but it has me worried. No problems with the steering until tonight. Yesterday I hit a rather large dip in the road put there for construction that kind of worried me. But there wasn’t any noticeable change in anything on the car afterwards. The only other thing I’ve done in the car was late lastnight I drove it up and ran it through an automatic car wash. I’m just wondering what this could possibly be, and the cost, and how bad. I can’t take it to the shop immediately, probably not until next weekend. I only need to drive it about 10 miles to work each way. I don’t take it on any freeways, it’s all side streets. I did check the fluid level and it indeed was low. I bought some fluid and put it in. Drove it around a bit, but not much, and it didn’t seem to improve. Can it take awhile for that to kind of ‘kick in’ or should it be immediate? I jus
