The Census Bureau has no funding to reimburse local or tribal governments for money or staff time they spend on address list and map review activities. This is a partnership program. The participating government agrees to review and update these materials. Better maps and a better address list will lead to a better census, which will assure that local and tribal governments receive their full allocation of federal funding based on population. Participating governments should contact their Census Bureau regional offices by electronic mail or telephone with any questions. The Census Bureau established a help desk at 1-888-879-6656 for localities with computer readable files and this number will remain operational until at least August 2000. The Census Bureau has offered regional planning agencies and the State Data Centers the opportunity to assist the Census Bureau in implementing the program. II.
