List side effects/complications of vein treatment?
They may include: (1) Bruising – common; resolves in 7-14 days. (2) Phlebitis – Inflammation of a vein that is minor and treated with local measures. (3) Allergic drug reaction to the sclerosant or anesthetic – very rare, mostly minor. (4) “Trapped blood” – common; tender, firm bumps that are drained on occassion. (5) Areas of increased pigmentation – common; fades with time and usually gone within a year. (6) Burning/stinging/itching at injection sites, or muscle cramps – usually gone within 15 minutes. (7) Pulling sensations after laser ablation – common; fades over 1-2 weeks. (8) “Matting” – fine caliber red veins following sclerotherapy in up to 30% of patients, goes away with or without further sclerotherapy. (9) Small burns or ulcerations – rare; generally heal on their own. (10) Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) – rare; blood clots that require strong anti-clot medications with or without hospitalization.
