Lets talk fencing question?

OTTBs are different than other horses. A herd of OTTBs right off the track is going to race around like idiots and generally test whatever frencing you choose. I have used high tensile electric fence for years, and have had 3 horses seriously injured. All OTTBs. They just don’t get it! Twice I’ve had them kick a hind leg through it and get hung up, panic, run away pulling the wire with them. One severed tendon with several inches of bone showing. One sliced into the hock to the joint. Both now healed, but scarred and expensive. The third one layed down too close to it, rolled in the wrong direction, legs caught, stood up, and somehow ended up on the other side. He was pretty sliced up, but it was all superficial. If you’re going to use electric, make sure the electric is always ON! The tendon severing incident occurred during a power outage; the sliced hock when my solar zapper was dying. It’s the only thing that makes a wire fence safe for an OTTB.
