It varies. It would be really great if there was one brand or one design of color changing lens that worked well on everyone. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. We have a tremendous selection of commercially available color changing lenses, however, they all look different on different eyes. When we do a contact lens fitting we try as many lenses as needed until we find the best looking lens for that person. If the standard color changing lenses do not look realistic, or we know that there will be extreme close-ups where lenses are often quite obvious, we recommend handpainted lenses. These lenses have several advantages. We can get any eye color we want regardless of the actor’s original eye color, and they have a lot of iris detail so that the eye does not appear as one flat color; we can paint the lens to have a smaller clear pupil, so that in bright light situations, you do not see the actor’s eye color bleeding through at the pupil.
