Legal Marketing Reluctance – What If Its Fear of Success?
When it comes to legal marketing reluctance, we often think of the cause as being some form of fear of “failure.” You know the concern you might have about being negatively evaluated, seen as inadequate, embarrassed, humiliated, and/or rejected in some fashion. When that is the case, just thinking about marketing makes your heart race and your palms sweat. But what we may not even consider is that reluctance to market a law practice may be due to fear of “success.” It may seem hard to believe since “success” is the mantra of today’s society, but large numbers of people do fear the results and implications of their business becoming a big success. Of course, each person’s definition of “success” will differ based upon your assignment of importance to the concept and behavior, your related values, its positive or negative associations for you, your past experience, and the consequences you would expect. Being a “success” means being in the public eye. You are putting yourself out there t
