LaTourette wants investigation: Did federal official steer cash to his former client, PNC?
WASHINGTON — A Treasury Department official Tuesday angrily denied Rep. Steve LaTourette’s suggestions that he orchestrated PNC Financial Services Group’s purchase of National City Bank with federal bank bailout dollars because he was a PNC attorney before taking his government job. “The suggestion is absolutely baseless, and I am astonished that you would make such sweeping allegations without checking the facts,” Comptroller of the Currency John C. Dugan wrote in a letter to LaTourette.
