That’s an imaginitive idea, but no. My Spanish dictionary says “Las Vegas” means, “the fertile plains.” This web site (http://www.icoproject.org/star.html ) says that the star name “Vega” is a corruption of the Arabic “Al Waqi'”, which means “The stooping eagle.” It’s not really meaningful to align something on the ground with a star, because the star’s position in the sky changes all the time as the earth rotates. Vega is sometimes in the east, sometimes in the west, and sometimes straight overhead.
