Knitting question……Can you use double knitting wool instead of 4ply if the pattern is for 4ply wool please?
Double knitting is the equivalent of 8 ply, therefore it is twice as thick as what you need. I suggest you try doing a tension square using a lot smaller needle than is suggested in the pattern to get anywhere near the result, and even then you may find it is still too big. Your easiest alternative is to either use the correct ply or find a pattern that will give a similar look in the 8 ply/double knit yarn otherwise you are going to have a lot of adjusting to do, and it’s the areas like the underarm, sleeves and neck where you are going to have problems. If you were only doing something like a scarf it wouldn’t matter but there is nothing more annoying than to knit a full sweater or something and then find it doesn’t fit. Hope this helps. Good luck.
