Keyspan USB/Serial Adapter: Mac OS 8.5.1 software only sees Port #2?
A follow-up to our previous report on problems with Keyspan USB/Serial Adapter: Gordon Wolfe writes: “I was able to set up White Knight and GV Fax Center to use the modem through the Keyspan, but only if I used port #1 of the Keyspan for my modem connection. Nothing gets through on Port #2. However, I couldn’t get the Apple Remote Access dialer to dial the modem to my Internet ISP. Upon looking at the Modem control panel, I find that it is set to use the Keyspan Port #2. Not only that, where most people would get a choice of ports, I get none. Port #2 is the only port selectable.” He contacted Keyspan about this and they told him that Mac OS 8.5.1 only recognizes port #2 on a Keyspan USB Serial Adapter. Apple is aware of the problem and is currently working on a “fix” for the Modem control panel that will allow it to see both ports. There was no word on when such a fix would be available. Keyspan recommended using FreePPP, which should be able to see both ports.
