Just what is BioDiesel Anyway?
BioDiesel or Transesterified Oil is NOT simply vegetable oil that has been thinned with alcohol! BioDiesel is made from Vegetable Oil, Lye & Alcohol in a chemical process called Transesterification, this creates a compound called methyl ester which burns much like #2 diesel fuel. This methyl ester closely approximates regular #2 diesel fuel in both viscosity & Cetane value. The vegetable oil used can be either New Oil or used French Fry Oil, it doesn’t matter. Properly washed it does not contain free Alcohol which would give less lubrication & likely damage your diesel engine. Transesterified oil has undergone a chemical change & has been chemically linked or bonded with the alcohol on a molecular level. It is safe to use as a fuel in just about any diesel engine. Some alcohol will remain since the reaction relies on excess alcohol, however Washing removes any remaining Lye or Alcohol. Some people simply filter & use it without washing out the alcohol but we don’t recommend that. Trans
