Jones, are you familiar with Rossetti brand french horns?
Answer Well, like most of the brand names that have appeared on the market over the last ten years they’re a Chinese-made instrument, and personally I wouldn’t spend my money on any of them. They’re always extremely variable in quality so a review is a useless concept, the review model might play reasonably but that’s no guarantee that the one you get will be similar. And in almost all cases I’ve come across, the quality of materials and manufacture is poor enough that after a couple of years you’ll have problems with mechanisms, peeling lacquer soldering coming undone and so on. Basically, you get what you pay for, and if a new horn retails at $500 it’s probably 25% as good as a Yamaha/Holton/Conn at $2000. And me, I’d rather pay $1000 for a used quality horn which will last for decades than $500 for a cheap and probbaly nasty one.
