joining it. How do you control a channel so that it stays in the list and can not be taken over by other users?
In much the same way as nickname can be registered with a password, a channel can be registered as well. This allows the channel to remain in the list even if it is empty. It also gives the owner of the channel additional controls over the users in it. The command to register a channel is similar to registering a nick.
