I’ve switched to a new pay as you go or Sim-only mobile provider, but the new Sim card won’t work in my old mobile handset. Why not?

To discourage switching, some mobile providers such as Orange and Vodafone lock handsets so you can use the phone only with their Sim cards. You can ask the provider who supplied your phone to unlock it for use with a new network, but you may have to pay around £20. Websites such as Trycktill let you do it for free but it can be fiddly.
