Ive seen both The Kid Inside and Chestnut Street Incident on CD. Are these legitimate releases?
These albums were made for MCA, but when John was dropped from MCA Tony DeFries (John’s manager) got controlling rights to these albums. Later, once John was breaking through to major fame, he released these as the single album John Cougar the Collection. Then he released them individually also in the ’80s. In 1998, apparently he licensed them to a small label (Red Snapper) to press them on CD for the first time. Since John never gained control over that material, he couldn’t stop it. They are legitimate, legal releases.
