Ive noticed that the library has two main categories for crime fiction: mystery and suspense. What is the difference between them?
For a book to be classified as a mystery, there must be a murder. Mysteries can be likened to a puzzle where the reader does not know the killer before the crime is solved at the end of the book. Suspense novels may also involve a murder but might also involve other types of crime without a murder: kidnapping, bank robbery, terrorism, legal thrillers, etc. The reader may know who the criminal is ahead of time, often seeing the crimes through their eyes.
