Ive just been arrested for underage drinking. What are the consequences that I can expect?
Criminally, you can expect to face a District Magistrate, where you will have the choice of pleading guilty or not guilty. If you plead guilty, the fine and costs will be set by the District Magistrate and you will be required to pay that amount. The maximum fine is $300.00 plus costs and/or 90 days in jail. If you plead not guilty, the District Magistrate will set a hearing date within ten days of your request. At that hearing, you will present your side of the incident, which would include any witnesses or evidence that would be pertinent to your case. You are also afforded the opportunity to have an attorney represent you. If you are found guilty, you will be required to pay the set fine and costs.
