International students cannot apply for a Canadian Social Insurance Number until they have secured employment on campus. Upon proof of employment, they must submit an application to Human Resources Development Canada and will be assigned a social insurance number (SIN). If you are hiring an international student you must download (on departmental letter) and complete the International Student Proof of Employment Form.
