Ive heard the expression synthesizer or synthesized transmitter and I wonder what it means. Is it something I should have as a beginner in the hobby?
A-14: A synthesized transmitter is one that produces all of the necessary RC channels on (for example) the 72 MHz band (CH-11 to CH-60) without the need for individual crystals. Using special circuitry, a synthesized RC transmitter will let you “dial up” any channel in the band. The concept is simple but you must be careful when using a synthesized RC transmitter. Every time you dial up a new channel of operation you must physically change the channel number placard attached to your transmitter. If you fail to do this, you might end up broadcasting a signal on the wrong channel resulting in a crash or possible injury. If several modelers at your field are on the same channel, a synthesized RC transmitter allows you to change to a clear channel rather than wait for your turn to fly. But changing the transmitter channel is only one part of the routine. You must also change the channel on your receiver inside the model. RC receivers are generally not synthesized and require that you acces
