I’ve heard that the initial screening test (Caudal Fold Test) is likely to produce some false positive results. Why don’t you use a different test?
The Federal Code of Regulations requires the use of the Caudal Fold Test as the initial screening test. In addition, conducting blood tests on all the quarantined cattle would be very expensive, labor intensive and would prolong the epidemiological investigation, thus prolonging the amount of time the herds would need to remain quarantined. Cattle that exhibit any reaction to the Caudal Fold Test will have a Gamma Interferon test (blood test) conducted.
