Ive heard Republicans are comfortable in their beliefs and so avoid researching anything that might change them. Do you know what percentage of Republicans vs Democrats watch the debates?
What Payton has said is very intelligent and true from a human perspective. Let me take it from another perspective. Most Republicans are high class rich people who are comfortable with their beliefs because they serve their purposes. They do watch the debates though I must believe they don’t understand a thing of all they hear, they are too close minded to understand so they simply label those different to them and when asked they give a vague idea about the issues. Not too many Democrats watch the debates, most of them are upper and middle and class people who want to learn and understand thus do their research. Way too many are poor and very poor people, believe it or not, very many in this segment scarcely know how to read and write, shame on us the rest of Americans. The middle class do watch the debates and suffer with what they see and hear. The poor and very poor don’t watch them because they do not have enough education to understand what is going on. They usually find out wha
I don’t think that’s just Republicans. Anyone who has a strong belief in a certain thing, they don’t want to read any opposing views. Not out of fear, but because it goes against everything that they’ve believed. Case in point: If a person believes in the green movement they are not going to read anything that would shed doubt on that movement, because they’ve already invested emotions into it.
The comfort level you feel with a certain candidate reflects you own assumptions of similar beliefs and his/her apparent competence. This is true regardless of party affiliation. The satisfaction anyone feels with their own beliefs is simply a personnal evaluation of those needs that the "belief" meets positively or not. Thus if you are a farmer and a politician consistantly pushes for policies that promote ariculture and related practices, you would probably have a strong and comfortable belief in that politician and by default the associated party.
