Ive heard of something called Auto232. What is it and does Chessmaster 8000 support it?
Auto232 is a communication protocol that allows two chess program GUIs on different computers to play against each other via a connection between the computers’ serial ports. The connection is made with what is called a “null modem” cable, allowing communication between these two ports. This is useful for testing two programs against each other without them having to fight for control of the same CPU. Chessmaster 8000 does not internally support the Auto232 protocol, but several users have reported that they were able to get similar results by downloading two freeware programs and properly configuring them to work with Chessmaster. The first of these is Eberhard Brger’s “WinBoard232”, which you can get by going to: amateurschach.de/schach/download/autoplayer/boerger_eng.htm The second program is Remi Coloum’s autoplayer, which you can get by going to: remi.coulom.free.fr/ This second program will only be necessary if the chess program on the other computer requires Auto232 support.
