· Almost everything. Almost all other Champagne beers are ale’s, made in Belgium then sent to France to add Champagne yeast. They are high in alcohol content, 8% and usually higher. They are also bottle fermented, which means live champagne yeast is left in the bottle. Kasteel Cru is the exact opposite. It is a lager, all the ingredients are local to the Alsace region, and it is made there. The alcohol content is 5.2%; it is smooth, light and crisp with a nice zing at the finish. It is not bottle fermented, which means all of the live yeast is removed after it does its job. Kasteel Cru is currently available at high-end locations in Manhattan, such as Restaurant Daniel, Marquee, Blue Water Grill, Tenjune, Ocean Grill, the Bowery Hotel, Artisanal, the Hotel on Rivington, and many other high end and exclusive accounts. TenJune’s general manager, Eric Marx, says “There was a gap in our current beer offerings and Kasteel Cru is a perfect fit.
