I’ve heard of investment clubs. What are they and how do they work?
A. Investment clubs are groups of people that get together a pre-specified number of times per year and discuss investments and investment strategies. Sometimes they pool money to purchase diverse portfolios that are owned by everyone. They share capital gains and the taxes. They assign companies to be researched to individuals and have oral reports on them when they meet. If they are not pooling money, the group can make individual decisions about investing in the company at a later time. As a fun FYI, one investment club made up of senior women out performed the best stockbrokers and corporate portfolio managers in the country with regards to “Return On Investment” (ROI) multiple years in a row.
