Listings in the ODP (Open Directory Project) are completely free. There is no paid inclusion or priority submissions mechanism for the ODP. The directory is edited by a worldwide group of volunteers. At the time of writing this FAQ, there were already over 70,000+ editors. The aim of the directory is not to commercial, but for quality accurate listings. Yahoo Directory on the other hand, was once an entirely commercial directory. Until 2002, listings in the directory involved an annual subscription, although paying did not guarantee your submission would be accepted, only that it would be reviewed within 7 days. Now, however, entry is free but it can take many weeks for your submission to be reviewed.
