I’ve heard horror stories on the news about “crack babies” and whatnot. How do you know you’ll be placed with a healthy baby?
A. Reasonable concern, of course. Now, if I had gotten pregnant, eaten organic, no medications or alcohol, and did everything right, there still would have been a chance of some health issue with the baby as there would be in any pregnancy. With adoption through Hope Cottage we have options. Options to specify what health issues we’re willing or not willing to consider. Options to read the health history of the birthmother. Options to see all of the baby’s medical records at birth and to talk with the hospital pediatrician. We’re able to make educated choices regarding any known health threats to the baby. Of course, there are no guarantees that any child won’t get sick somewhere down the line, but our plan is to start off our parenthood journey with a healthy, happy baby and to do all we can to keep him or her that way.
