Ive heard drinking adequate fluid is essential for optimal performance. But how much?
Dehydration will decrease your exercise performance, so it’s important to drink adequate fluid before, during and after you workouts for both overall health and optimal performance. Experts recommend that athletes drink enough fluid to balance their fluid losses. Two hours before your workout, drink 14 to 22 ounces of fluid. During your workouts, drink 6 to 12 ounces of fluid every 15 to 20 minutes depending on tolerance. After exercise, drink adequate fluids to replace sweat losses during exercise. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least 16 to 24 ounces of fluid for every pound of body weight lost during your workouts.
