I’ve heard about secure desktop delivery for access to articles. What is this?
The Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI) does offer secure desktop delivery of articles. All documents sent via SDD are encrypted so that a document can only be viewed and printed once. It requires the installation of a plug-in (which is available free of charge) on the receiving computer. CISTI does not charge extra for SDD but copyright charges may differ from those for other modes of delivery. The average copyright charge when using SDD is around $20. For further information about CISTI’s SDD service see http://cisti-icist.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/docdel/faq_sdd_e.html.
