Ive heard a new 65nm version of the 360 called “Falcon” that runs cooler & quieter is coming?
There is a new CPU manufacturing process underway that is designed to make the chip run cooler and more efficiently. These are now being phased into the shops and are widely available. The way to tell if a console is a “Falcon” 65nm version is by checking the power supply; older versions of the 360 use 203W power supplies, newer “Falcons” have 175W power supplies. These new chips don’t require as much cooling, it may mean the console will become less prone to the infamous “3 red rings of death”, but this is unconfirmed to date as they have not been available for a long enough time to notice a trend. It does appear there is no reduction in noise generated by the console however, as much of the volume is generated by the high spin speed of the DVD drive. Please research on the forum to find the latest info on this issue.
