Every TV broadcast now carries a special electronic signal that identifies the rating given the program on one of two scales: the TV Parental Guidelines for TV programs and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for movies. Using the V-Chip, parents can program their TV sets to block specific types of programming (or individually selected programs) they deem objectionable. This blocking feature can be overridden at any time by means of a password, allowing parents to watch adult content while maintaining control over their children’s viewing choices.
