Yes. Depending on how high your blood pressure is, you may need to perform supervised activity as part of our Exercise Referral Programme. See How and where to be active page, or ask your GP. However, if your blood pressure is fairly stable, moderate activity has been proven to help reduce high blood pressure (hypertension). In regards to being very overweight the same principles would apply. If your weight prohibits mobility, you may need to concentrate on dietary intake first (see Food and Nutrition site) to get your weight down to a point where you feel you are able to at least walk for about 5 -10 mins. Remember for at least 95% of the population there is an appropriate, positive and safe activity that will benefit their health. The benefits of activity by far outweigh the risks. If in doubt contact the Exercise Referral Team on: 01384 366598 or speak to your GP about a referral. Your GP can also refer you to WeightWatchers.
