Ive been looking on some Shaolin websites, what is the training like?
Answer Hi Daniel, It’s very difficult to learn kung fu without a teacher. There are many videos on the market that you can order through websites and magazines, however. If you are a visual learner, you might make some progress. But almost everyone that I teach needs “hands on” corrections. All of us have the tendency to think we’re doing a movement correctly but actually we’re way off the mark. If you have a big mirror in a place where you can practice, you can check your postures according to photos and videos. If you have a friend that has your same enthusiasm, it would be best to have a partner. You could both watch an instructional video, practice the movements and techniques with each other, and try to correct the other’s mistakes. Training consists of physical strength (crunches, pushups, running, bag work, weight training) and a lot of repetitious kicks, punches, blocks, combinations, low stances such as a horse stance, form (kata) work and sparring. I’m sorry this took so long
