I’ve been growing tomatoes for 20 years. How come I’ve never heard of this disease?
A. Infections occur when the late blight pathogen and host plants (tomato and potato) are present in the same place, AND weather conditions are cool and wet. The disease is often seen in home gardens in parts of Western Maryland but rarely in other parts of the state. In 20 years of Extension work in Maryland I have only encountered it once in Central MD and that was in 1994.
