Also energy exhibits two state effects – whether free or systemic – especially said of thermal. (Heat as a free wave is not the — ya know what — let’s skip this part and never speak of it again… Back to the first bit though — also if the material varies its ability by temperature then again this would argue against any property for general (room temp) transparency. Clearly diamond behaves (at least in classification) the same as any other simple substance. There are ways to approach ‘transparency’ though by using materials where the thermal noise is powering conductance tunneling through a field effect – rather than classically through the material itself. Materials that seem on paper to suck at the job use the waste to break the rules. (Hi-temp at that! – but that’s the entire point.
