It costs so much to clean the tank, do septic tank additives work?
A national organization called Small Flows has commissioned several university studies of septic tank additives and the results have shown that they cannot find evidence that they prevent or delay tank maintenance. Some of these products actually interfered with the proper settling and removal of solids in the tank or led to permanent damage to the drainfield. The use of septic tank additives is not recommended.
