Isn the Transportation and Utility Corridor a green space? Has it always been set aside for transmission lines?
The TUC was never intended to be a green space, but rather an area of land purchased by the Government of Alberta and set aside for future development of ring roads, major power lines, pipelines, regional water and sewer lines, and telecommunications lines associated with city growth. In the case of transmission towers, the space is often used as a “green space” with walking trails and some other recreational uses. Use of the TUC for these types of infrastructure minimizes the land use problems associated with developing major linear infrastructure in urban areas.
