Isn’t the review just a way for the Australian Government to take over schools?
No. Under the Australian Constitution, it is the states and territories that are responsible for education. Australian schools receive a mix of funding from both state and federal governments. The Australian Government provides funding to government and non-government schools as part of a funding partnership involving state and territory governments and parent communities. Under current funding arrangements, government schools are primarily funded by state and territory governments with the Australian Government providing some additional funding. The Australian Government is the primary source of public funding to non-government schools although all state and territory governments also provide some funding to non-government schools.
