Isn’t The College just filling the gaps left by other national bodies that are not doing their jobs properly?
There is currently no national body that represents the views of all social workers to the regulatory bodies, the inspectorates, the employers and to government. There is currently no national body that provides advice and guidance and support for career development and progression for social workers, and enables them to access professional development. This is a real gap. Almost all other professions have such a body which is why the profession asked for a College as part of the work of the Social Work Task Force.
