We do have a foreign policy independent of the United States. Our foreign policy strives to work for UK interests in a safe, just and prosperous world. We often co-operate with other countries when our objectives coincide with theirs but when they don’t we don’t. The United States is and will remain a close political ally of the United Kingdom. We face common threats, common challenges and our common security is mutually entwined. A good, close working relationship with the United States best advances our mutual interests and those of interdependency internationally. Our relationship with the United States is clearly crucial. We are bound not only by our close historical ties but also by our shared commitment to democracy, human rights, global prosperity and international security. The international coalition against terrorism has demonstrated what can be achieved when we and our European partners work with the US.
