No! The STM is the ideal observation tool by which a girl can keep track of the maturation process of her cycle. Only in this way will she know whether she ovulates regularly. When a girl has her first sexual encounters, she has to protect herself against sexually transmitted diseases with a condom or a Femidom anyways, even if she is perfectly sure that she is in an infertile phase of her cycle (except if she has known her partner for a sufficiently long time). The STM can become an alternative for the young couple as soon as the girl has a record of at least 6 biphasic cycles. The STM does not prohibit the use of condoms, but it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases either. The STM is only appropriate for couples – especially when it comes to young ones – who have a good knowledge of their health condition and are not afraid to communicate openly about intimate questions. For the sexually-abstinent girl, it makes a great deal of sense to use the STM because it will a
