Isn it a bit risky using free software?
We have found that the quality spectrum of free software is about the same as for conventionally marketed software. Users need to exercise the same level of critical evaluation as with any other goods. The advantage of free software is that it is less trouble to obtain in the first place, and if it is unsatisfactory you don’t have the bother of returning it and obtaining a refund. Surprisingly, when we did an audit on our own systems we found that the vast majority of the software we were using was either free or had come bundled with hardware.
