Isnt infant baptism just another name for the baby dedication commonly practiced in many churches today?
Unfortunately, those who have historically practiced infant baptism but are weak in their understanding and application of biblical Covenantalism find that they must resort to some other explanation for their practice such as baby dedication or something of the sort. On the other hand, we hold that baptism is one of Gods means of grace. That does not mean that all who are baptized are automatically saved (Roman Catholic view) anymore than it meant that all who were circumcised were automatically saved. It does mean we believe that as much as God ordains the end product of all things so He also ordains the means to the end. Baptism is such a means to the grace of God. Since the children of just one believing spouse is holy (i.e., set apart unto God) (1 Cor 7:14) and sovereignly born into a covenant family then it seems appropriate that the covenant community, for whom alone the hopes and promises of God are established, should extend the sign of covenant membership and promise to the ch
