Isn’t drug and alcohol treatment expensive?

Yes… and no. One of the reasons St. John’s developed the Discovery Program was to provide affordable, high-quality substance abuse services to teenagers and their families. We understand that most families simply cannot afford out-of-town, in-patient services costing $20-30,000 for the typical 28 days of treatment. Many teenagers, however, can benefit from Discovery’s day treatment program here in Grand Rapids which is far less expensive ($7,500 for two months) than in-patient care, while still providing most of the same services. And, because it is local, Discovery has the added, critical benefit of providing long-term support for teenagers and their families following the day treatment program. Parents may also find that their teenagers may only require outpatient counseling services. In more than half of our assessments, we recommend that the teenager and parents consider less intensive services such as outpatient counseling prior to trying day treatment.
