Isn’t Amazonia completely unknown to science?
The idea that Amazonia is completely unknown and unstudied is widespread and is often used to suggest that any but the most painless measures that would limit deforestation should be delayed until “adequate” studies are completed. While much remains to be learned about Amazonia, it is also true that a substantial body of information exists that justifies major policy changes to reduce deforestation.
