Is Zimbabwe the new coking coal destination?
September 25, 2007: A little-known South-Africa based company, Nucoal Mining (Pty) Ltd, has claimed that it has found a rich deposit of coking coal in the land under its hold. The deposit is expected to be about 100 million tons in Zimbabwe, which is not far from South Africa. In an exclusive chat with Coal Insights, Nucoal Mining’s Simon Hewetson, said the discovery is bound to be good news for everybody looking for coking coal assets. Hewetson, who was in India recently, said his company is looking for partners who could help them in developing these new deposits of coking coal. Till very recently, it was known that South Africa has large deposits of steam coal in its vicinity, which is suitable for generating power. It was also known that countries like Botswana and Mozambique could emerge as important suppliers of coking coal used by steel industry in large quantity.
