Is “Yellow Cake” the standard or an inferior uranium nuclear reactor fuel source?
Yellow cake is one stage in the uranium refinement process – it is uranium oxide, separated from other minerals but not yet converted into uranium metal and certainly not in any way enriched. As such, it is the intermediate in the essentially conventional process of extracting uranium from its ores and the very specialised process of enriching uranium. It is therefore a convenient form in which to ship around raw uranium. It is in no way inferior – you cannot avoid this stage, so I suppose you could call it standard.
