Is XOOD gluten free?
While XOOD does not contain wheat gluten, the fructose used in all three XOOD formulas does contain corn gluten at low levels. In addition, the natural pomegranate flavor found in XOOD Pomegranate also contains corn gluten. Celiac disease is an auto-immune disease caused by a reaction to a particular sub-type of gluten protein, called gliadin. Gliadin gluten comes from wheat, rye, barley, and certain other grains. Cereal grains such as corn, quinoa, millet, sorghum, amaranth, buckwheat, rice, and wild rice which do not contain gliadin appear safe for Celiac patients to consume1. XOOD contains corn gluten and not gliadin thus should be safe for people with Celiac disease and other gluten allergies to consume. 1(Gallagher, Eimear (2009).
