Is Wordfast hard to install/use on Linux?
My frame of reference is that of a desktop Linux user with moderate technical skills. Compared with other software that I use, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the easiest to use, I’d give OpenOffice.org (easy download, extensive manual, knowledge base, etc.) a 2 out of 10 on the learning curve and Wordfast about a 4. Wordfast’s manual is very easy to use, and the Yahoo! group members are incredibly helpful even when dealing with the most basic of questions; post a message and you’ll get an answer, often from Wordfast’s developer Yves Champollion. On the downside, I hit one point early on (see hint about setting up your TM on the introduction page) where I would have given up had my husband, a Unix sysadmin, not bailed me out. Most of the work of learning Wordfast has nothing to do with your platform, but with the fact that powerful CAT programs aren’t always that intuitively obvious at the outset-the productivity curve rises precipitously as you learn more!
