Satellites are located at 23 000 miles away. Each communication has to travel at least 46 000 miles to reach its destination. But with wireless, your destination point could be few miles away. With satellite communication, the packet has to travel a long distance. This can cause the communication to timeout. Due to this phenomenon (latency), access to secure sites (such as online banking, online shopping and online gaming) is slower on satellite links.
