Is windsurfing hard to learn?

I know I’d much rather spend my vacation time windsurfing instead of sitting on Y!A, so go do it already. I’ve done some windsurfing and some snowboarding, and I don’t think they’re similar at all. If you’ve developed a good sense of balance in the other sports, maybe it’ll help you, but the techniques really don’t translate. Windsurfing can be easy to learn but hard to master. Start by taking a lesson. They’ll put you on a big board with a small sail in light wind. The board will have enough floatation, and the sail will be easy to manage. If you’re in light wind, you won’t feel like you’re moving, but the next thing you know, you’re 100 yards from where you started. After that, you’ll want a bigger sail, a smaller board, and higher winds. That’s where it gets difficult. And fun.
